It it believed that friendships formed over the Internet are as strong as ones formed in person. Although a considerable number of people disapprove of that opinion, I personally agree with that statement.

First of all, the Internet is the most widespread source of communication, consequently, there have been created thousands upon thousands of websites devoted to differential kinds of subjects. People, who are interested in particular fields, including education, music, business, and many others, have an opportunity to get to know one another. They frequently decide to meet face to face, which might result in starting a friendship. Furthermore, there are people who are socially excluded and have difficulty in establishing a contact face to face, and the Internet helps them to overcome that issue. Lastly, a friendship formed over the Internet could be stronger that the one formed in the real world as some particular forums make people feel like they belong together.

On the other hand, it is said that friendships formed over the Internet are not as strong as ones formed in person. Firstly, such a friendship is definitely limited. If we wanted to spend some time outdoors, go to the cinema or simply hang out with a person met online, it would be difficult or even impossible. Moreover, we cannot talk face to face, via a mobile phone or even meet face to face. Such a friendship appears not to be real. Last but not least, it is unviable to verify if the person we met is actually the person we think he or she is, and such a situation may carry a lot of unpleasant consequences.

To sum up, friendships formed over the internet and those formed face to face are equally of prime importance, however, I strongly believe we should be cautious when we get to know someone in the Internet, and if we do, we are obliged to make sure such a person is trustworthy.
